Transport is seen here in all sorts of weather, from an overcast departure of the RMS Windsor Castle from Southampton in 1962. The Liners of the Union Castle line had distinctive mauve coloured hulls, and while the mail run to Cape Town was one of the regular runs of these ships, this occasion seems to be a shorter cruise as there is a banner hanging from the upper superstructure that reads “Overseas Visitors Club Special”.
A street in Lancaster is seen here on a rainy day in 1956. Almost bereft of traffic only five vehicles can be seen, a late 1930's saloon, a Standard saloon, a Morris Minor, a Rolls Royce and a coach. The Newsagent and tobacconist on the corner has a display of postcards in the window, and glass adverts for Players and Capstan cigarettes. There is a chemist just past the Newsagent and at the far end of the street what looks like a garage. The rain is pouring down and the few people that can be seen are all clad in rain gear of the sort seldom seen today.
