Introduction to the Collection
From the first commercial colour processes of the Edwardian Era up until the mass production of colour film in the 1960s colour imagery was the province of the well off amateur and very occasionally the professional photographer. The collection comprises a few images from the very early years of colour photography on glass plates with more extensive holdings from the 1930s and the 1940s and 50s. Only a small part of the collection will be viewable on line, but what is will give a flavour of what the collection holds. Please follow the links through the site to explore the past in colour.
From the early days of Autochrome, Paget and Finlay processes through Dufaycolor, Kodachrome and Agfa of the 1930s and 40s to post war Kodachrome, Ansocolor and others most photographic processes are represented in the collection. With the passage of time some dyes have colour shifted and the images have had to be colour corrected. Kodachrome from as far back as the late 1930s however is the most stable of all and some of these images of nearly 70 years ago are still as fresh and vibrant as if they were taken yesterday. Any images that have to be corrected to minimise damage or degradation of the image will be noted.
Please read the Terms and Conditions before Ordering as all orders are undertaken on the basis that the Terms and Conditions have been read and accepted. More images will be put on line as time allows.
